What is Mareworthy Charities?
Mareworthy Charities exists to develop programs and grants that ensure all at-risk Thoroughbred mares whose racing and breeding careers have ended are tracked and provided with care that protects them from suffering and cruelty.
Mareworthy Charities is a dream of Kyle Rothfus. The sanctuary at Mareworthy will be dedicated to providing/finding forever homes for Thoroughbred warhorse mares (mares who raced more than 50 times) and retired Thoroughbred broodmares. Additionally, once Mareworthy Charities is launched, approved individuals, farms, and aftercare organizations across the United States will be able to apply for funding to support Mareworthy eligible mares. Currently the sanctuary is in its infancy with limited space in Kentucky, but the future dream is to acquire a larger property that can be home to a larger herd. Until then, Mareworthy Charities will develop a network for finding approved forever homes for eligible mares. Mareworthy Charities will be funded through purse money from Mareworthy Racing, sponsorships, merchandise sales, fundraising, and any other creative ways we can support the horses we love. We are in the process of establishing "Mareworthy Charities" as a 501(c)3 organization and hope to be fully launched in early 2023. At that time we will begin offering funding opportunities. |

Current Mareworthy Sanctuary Residents
Worthy of Wings, Secret Paradise, and Grisham are the current residents of the Sanctuary at Mareworthy. With a COMBINED 300 RACES between Secret and Worthy and 14 foals for Grisham, they definitely earned their forever homes.
Worthy was born in Ohio in 2005 and Secret was born in Kentucky in 2010. Both ended up in Puerto Rico before being retired from racing. Worthy arrived in PR in 2014 after having already run 87 races on the mainland. She ran another 51 races in PR. Secret went straight to PR as a yearling, and she ran all 162 of her races at the only track in Puerto Rico.
Worthy retired in 2018 and Secret in 2021. Both were retired thanks to the efforts of the amazing team at Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare Inc. Learn more about CTA at www.CTAhorse.com.
Worthy and Secret were the first official ambassadors for the Mareworthy Sanctuary, and Grisham joined the Mareworthy Sanctuary in November 2022 when one of Kyle's Facebook followers alerted him she was in need.
Now 24 years old, Grisham was mother to 14 foals before being dropped into an auction at 23 years old where she ended up on a feed lot destined for slaughter.

Secret came to us very guarded and dangerous, but with time and patient care, she's becoming a real sweetheart.
